FROEDTERT - BONE MARROW UNIT
Inpatient Bone Marrow Transplant Unit Fitout - Milwaukee Wisconsin
Bone Marrow Transplant patients spend an average of 28 days in the hospital as they recover; with no access to any off-unit amenities, special care was taken to bring a sense of calm, and rhythms of the day to the patients room. This project began with game-boarding the support spaces with nurses who would go on to staff the unit and a full scale mockup of the patient room complete with medical equipment to fine tune the location of all medical necessities.
Countless hours were spent redesigning the typical patient room to accommodate the lengthy stay, while maintaining a focus on safety and cleanability. a small desk, and touches of home were added to the patient zone, while copper infused counters and bleachable laminates were used to ensure the cleanest environment possible.
This unit was designed as a new standard for the inpatient units in Froedtert’s Center for Advanced Care. Open teaming areas, a walking track, a common room for physical activity, and expansive views over the field and forest to the south, the unit encourages a return to healthy lifestyle for its patients.
